Neutrinos are elementary subatomic particle in the lepton family with no electric charge, very little mass, and 1/2 unit of spin. The standard model, which is currently our best description of the fundamental particles and forces, predicts that neutrinos should have no mass. However, neutrinos are now know to come in three distinct flavors each of which have a small mass and can oscillate between these flavors. Neutrinos could have other strange properties as well. They could turn out to be identical to antineutrinos, their antimatter counterparts. They could be related to massive particles that theorists think might have greatly influenced the formation of our universe.
