At the end of each academic year, we recognize undergraduate excellence at our departmental awards colloquium, giving the following awards:
Scholarships & Awards
Outstanding Undergraduate Award
This award goes to a graduating senior who has shown a high degree of scholarship, service to the department, leadership, and a positive attitude in a classroom and/or a service role.
Hugh Brown Memorial Scholarship
This $500 scholarship from the Brown endowment is given to a deserving undergraduate who demonstrates financial need, academic excellence, a strong desire for scientific knowledge, and determination toward completing a bachelor’s degree at Indiana University.
Gabriel Benman Memorial Award
The Gabriel Benman Memorial Award has been established in memory of Gabriel Benman, an undergraduate student who was a Physics major from 2001 through 2004. This award is given to an undergraduate who shows outstanding promise and achievement in physics.
Departmental honors in Physics
Students who receive a bachelor’s degree with departmental Honors in Physics must maintain a high overall GPA and have completed a senior honor’s thesis. They receive gold honor cords to wear at graduation and an honors designation on their diploma.
