A partial list of possible internship and undergraduate research programs appears below. Students are encouraged to seek any internship experience that is aligned with their interests, even if it does not appear in the list below.

Crane Naval Surface Warfare Center

Located in Crane, Indiana, the Science and Engineering Apprenticeship Program (SEAP) provides opportunities for high school students to participate in science and engineering research.

DAAD

Research Internships in Science Engineering (RISE) Germany offers undergraduate students the opportunity to complete a summer research internship at top German universities and research institutions.

Department of Energy

The Science Undergraduate Laboratory Internship (SULI) program encourages undergraduate students and recent graduates to pursue science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) careers by providing research experiences at the Department of Energy (DOE) laboratories.

EPFL School of Life Sciences

Located in Lausanne, Switzerland, EPFL’s core mission is training the next generation of engineers, scientists and architects, with cutting-edge programs recognized around the world.

Fermilab

The Illinois Accelerator Institute introduces undergraduate students to the world of particle accelerator physics and technology, offering the Lee Teng Undergraduate Internship in Accelerator Science and Engineering.

General Electric

National Institutes of Health (NIH)

Summer Internship Program in Biomedical Resarch (SIP): Summer programs at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) provide an opportunity to spend a summer working at the NIH side-by-side with some of the leading scientists in the world, in an environment devoted exclusively to biomedical research. At the NIH "biomedical research" includes everything from behavioral and social sciences, through biology and chemistry, to physics, mathematical modeling, computational biology, and biostatistics.

National Science Foundation

The National Science Foundation provides Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU), typically undertaken in one lab for ten weeks during the summer.

Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE)

ORISE connects the most talented and diverse students, recent graduates, faculty, and educators to programs closely aligned with the interests of a variety of research facilities, including those managed for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and more than a dozen other federal agencies.

Applied Physics internship requirement
