During your first year as a graduate student, you take core curriculum classes and, in most cases, teach an introductory course. You are encouraged to explore research opportunities with the goal of settling on a research group by the beginning of your first summer. Research may be conducted on campus or at national laboratories or other affiliated institutions. Courses are taught in Swain West, which is also the central location for departmental events such as weekly seminars.
