Undergraduate Physics majors form a tight-knit group, working together with faculty and tutors to solve difficult problem sets through the Physics Forum. Students can often be found in the student lounge—socializing, doing schoolwork, or playing chess.

Incoming freshman may participate in research through the Arts and Sciences Undergraduate Research Experience (ASURE) program. Students pursuing the Program I Traditional Physics B.S. degree also enjoy an early introduction to lab work. Other undergraduate majors become involved in research projects during their junior and senior years. These experiences often prove transformative, providing a vision of the path future careers or advanced education could take.

The international aspect of my studies is beyond comparison to other universities, with several of our language departments being among the best in the nation. I think the Physics faculty at IU are amazing, my teachers have been more than forthcoming in assisting students with physics as well as offering numerous chances to participate in research.

You can gain valuable, real-world experience in a chosen area of interest through paid internships in industry, academia, or national laboratories. Our Applied Physics students are required to participate in at least one 10 week internship. Our students have been successfully placed in a variety of internship programs across the country.
