DEPARTURE
Dorm students check out Friday morning, June15. Personal items may be stored in a locked room in Swain Hall until students return to Bloomington from Fermilab on Saturday evening sometime after 8:00 P.M. Students from Elkhart will take their personal items with them in the van to the Fermilab tour, and then to Elkhart, arriving Saturday evening sometime after 6:30 P.M.
DORM COUNSELORS
One female and one male counselor will live in the residence hall with the students, and will supervise all the residence hall activities, answer questions, and provide help to participants as needed. The dorm counselors are the QuarkNet teachers and policy requires that they know your location so you may be contacted quickly at any time. Please make sure you always let one know when you leave the dorm for any reason.
HOURS
QuarkNet students will be expected to be in their rooms at 10:00 P.M. for evening check each night unless otherwise approved by a counselor. Once evening check is completed, students may not leave their floor without approval from a counselor.
MEALS
Meals will be provided to students living in the dorm with a morning and evening meal plan for the McNutt-all you can eat-athletic cafeteria. McNutt is located across the street from Foster. McNutt meals begin with breakfast Monday June 11, and the last dorm meal is breakfast on Friday June 15. Lunches will be provided through the Wright Food Court. You will order from their menu and your meal will be brought to you at Swain Hall. Friday dinner before the trip to Fermilab will also be at Wright Food court. A van will provide morning and evening transportation between Foster and Swain Hall. In the morning the van will leave Foster at 8:00 AM, and in the evening the van will leave Swain Hall at 4:30 P.M.
All workshop classes will be held in Swain Hall room 135 (see enclosed maps to locate Swain Hall and the building map to locate the classroom). Students commuting will be provided with C-parking stickers, and will be able to park in the nearby garage, or the parking lot across 3rd street from Swain Hall. Daily classes will begin promptly each morning at 8:30 A.M. There will be a one-hour lunch break, and work will end at 4:00 P.M. with an additional 30 minutes for updating journals.
Each student will be assigned to one of the four work-groups supervised by a QuarkNet Associate teacher. Each work-group will have assigned tasks to accomplish, will be responsible for maintaining a daily journal and will prepare a group report to present at Friday's wrap-up session. Your work-group supervisor will assist in all of these activities. You will indicate your work-group preferences when you complete the Feedback Sheet in your Student Packet.
Preparing for the workshop
Your email address will be placed on a QuarkNet Listserv at the following address:
quarknet_students@hep.physics.Indiana.edu
You will be receiving information periodically, so please check your email regularly. Some messages will require a response, so please try to respond within a day or two of the mailing date. Some messages will refer you to web sites that provide information that will have some application to the summer project. Visit those sites as you have time, learning more early will make learning this summer easier and more meaningful. Also, if you find something of interest that all should see, be sure to forward it to the collaboration using the listserv address.
Below you will find additional links for you to explore. These sites are related to things that we will do this summer. These links are posted on the IU QuarkNet web site. Visit these links as time allows. They are not required readings but the * items are highly recommended.

Workshop ATTIRE
Casual attire will be acceptable for academic activities. Although, some activities such as swimming, caving, and the Student Recreational Sports Center (SRSC) require more suitable clothing. More information about these activities is available below and on the Feedback Sheet in your Student Packet.
Special Activities
Check the workshop calendar to see the kinds of after work activities that will be available. The Feedback Sheet has a section where you can mark the activities you find most interesting. Not all the activities will be available each evening, and your selections will help determine which activities we provide.
FERMILAB
There is a fieldtrip scheduled to tour Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (Fermilab) at Batavia, IL, about 25 miles west of Chicago. Two Indiana University vans will used to transport the students who are able to make the trip to Fermilab. The vans will leave Friday evening after dinner, departing Bloomington at 6:30 P.M., and arriving at the Red Roof Inn close to Fermilab in Batavia IL. While the cost of rooms and transportation will be provided, students will need to bring at least $20.00 for out-of-pocket expenses and meals. The vans will leave Fermilab Saturday, June 16 at about 4:00 P.M. after the tour of the facilities. One van will first go to Elkhart to drop students before retuning to Bloomington. (Elkhart students should bring their luggage with them on the van to Fermilab.) The second van will return directly to Bloomington, arriving sometime after 8:00 P.M. The second van will arrive sometime after 9:30 P.M. Parents should be prepared to meet the vans at Swain Hall, where the stored luggage can be retrieved.
