Master of Science in
Beam Physics and Technology
Indiana University/US Particle Accelerator School
In addition to traditional programs, the US Particle Accelerator School and Indiana University are proud to announce a new partnership offering you an opportunity to earn a Master of Science Degree in beam physics and technology from Indiana University. Students may opt to earn credit toward the Indiana University diploma at USPAS/University-sponsored courses. To participate in this degree program, applicants at any USPAS program may select one of the courses for Indiana University credit. The following information will outline this opportunity in more detail. Please read the information below. If you have questions, please feel free to contact the USPAS Office (uspas@fnal.gov, Phone 630-840-3896).Course RequirementsAward of a Master of Science Degree requires 30 hours of credit with a grade point average of B or above; a maximum of 8 credit hours may be transferred; credits earned at USPAS courses before June 1997 may be eligible for transfer. In general, there is a five year limit for the Master of Science degree. The requirement for the Classical Mechanics and Electromagnetism courses can be fulfilled by taking a two-week USPAS course on "Classical Mechanics and Electromagnetism in Beams."Fees/Financial Assistance6 cr

Graduate students in university degree programs generally qualify for financial assistance from the USPAS at its semi-annual programs. This assistance includes the registration fee, shared housing and 2 meals per day during the program dates. Participants in the USPAS/IU Master's Degree Program qualify for this financial assistance. All students are responsible for their round trip travel to the USPAS program site. Students in the USPAS/IU Master of Science Degree Program are responsible for an application fee of $45 US (payable to Indiana University) which must accompany your admissions application. If accepted into the IU master's degree program, you will be required to pay a fee of $80 US per credit hour.ApplicationInclude a copy of your undergraduate transcript(s), provide three letters of recommendation, and write an essay outlining why you want a degree in beam physics and technology. Students are also encouraged to supply a copy of their Graduate Record Exam. Applicants accepted into the program will be notified in time to participate in the immediately following USPAS/University-sponsored program. However, if you are interested in the program and are unable to complete the application and attachments by the deadline, you may still apply for the USPAS and take credit from the host university. If you are subsequently accepted into the program, the credit earned may be applied to your degree program. Applications will first be reviewed by the ASAC, so send all admissions material to the USPAS Office.Advisors
Students are encouraged to have a qualified advisor assigned at their home institution. If one is not available one will be assigned by the USPAS. The Admissions and Student Advisory Committee will review all students annually. Your advisor will participate in this evaluation process.Deadline DatesApplications may be submitted anytime; acceptance reviews will be conducted no later than November or May.
