Monkey and Cannon.

A2-1 Monkey and Cannon
Purpose: To demonstrate the independence of horizontal and vertical components of motion.
Description: The cannon is aimed at the monkey which is hung at a distance away from the cannon. As the projectile (a small ball) leaves the muzzle of the cannon it breaks a circuit generating the magnetic field that holds the monkey in place. The monkey begins to fall at the same time the projectile leaves the cannon. Due to independence of horizontal and vertical components of motion, the projectile will strike the monkey.
