Simple harmonic motion.

A17-1 Simple harmonic motion.
Purpose: To show simple harmonic motion.
Description: A ball is fixed at the end of a wire, and the wire is mounted on a motor. The rotation of the ball can be controlled by the motor speed and can be projected onto the wall with a point light source. The movement of the ball can be oriented tangentially or radially, and can demonstrate nicely the phase relations between displacement, velocity, and acceleration, showing how these quantities are related to the corresponding quantities in uniform circular motion.
References: Mx-1.
Equipment: Ball and motor.
