Gyroscope, Bicycle wheel.

A14-1 Gyroscope, Bicycle wheel.
Purpose: To demonstrate gyroscopic force, the conservation of angular momentum about a vertical axis.
Description: A bicycle wheel can turn freely on ball bearings and has a handle at each end of its axle. An instructor standing on a rotating platform with the bicycle wheel turning may show the conservation of angular momentum, centripetal force, and precession. A spin of the wheel with the hand gives a sufficient velocity. If the instructor turns the wheel over , he will receives an angular velocity in the opposite direction.

Equipment: bicycle wheel with handle, rotating platform.
