| Description: |
Two planes are hinged together on one end and the free end of the upper
plane can be lifted. There is a niche at the free end of the upper plane
to support a small ball. A can is attached on the upper plane a few inches
from the ball. The upper plane is raised to an angle so that the ball is
directly over the point occupied by the can when the plane is at its horizontal
position. When the upper plane is released, the ball support (the niche)
and the can suffer an acceleration greater than g and break away from the
ball. The can arrives at the horizontal position in time to catch the more
slowly falling ball. The ball appears to jump into the can. |
