Long Air Track

A11-5 Long Air Track
Purpose: To demonstrate conservation of linear momentum.
Description: Gliders are pushed together at center of the air track. When air is turned on, the spring pushes the gliders apart. For two gliders of equal mass, they strike the ends of the track simultaneously. If the track and gliders are considered a closed system, then the gliders carry away equal momentum.

Equipment: Long air track, different kinds of gliders.
